We’ve seen a lot of really entertaining golf so far this year, and we’ve finally reached the last major of the year, The Open Championship, being hosted by R&A at Royal St George’s in the UK. We’re through the first round of play and we’ve got two familiar names at the top of the leaderboard… Louis Oozthuizen (-6) and Jordan Spieth (-5). It seems the course played a bit easier for the morning tee times, as the afternoon has yielded some heavier winds. This links style gem is sure to give the players a challenge as the weekend rolls on. We’ll see how the cut chops down the field after tmrw.
Royal St Georges is not just any old venue for an Open Championship either, in 1894 it hosted the very first Open Championship outside of Scotland, and has hosted 14 championships in total, more than any other venue outside of Scotland. They did this really nice piece during the round today about Walter Hagan, and what this course and him meant to the game of golf. If I remember, I think there was this story about when Hagan played out at Royal St George’s with the then Prince of England and called him “kid”. Golf, man.
It’s crazy (also exciting for us junkies) to think the next major is April 2022 in Augusta for The Masters! Very fortunate to have the Ryder Cup this fall up at Whistling Straights, and it’s shaping up to be an epic battle. We’re planning on being up there and have some inventory available for purchase on the website. If you’ve never done a Ryder Cup live, I highly suggest it!! It’s a completely unique experience from anything you know about most tournaments.
Hope everyone enjoys the last major of the year! We’re Team Spieth, so we’re rooting for him to turn it up tomorrow and put some distance btwn him and rest of the field.
