Capital One’s The Match is quickly becoming a staple event in our annual golf consumption. It’s the celebrity golf event we always wanted, which began featuring two of golf’s most ionic names, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. And while I’m sure like many of other golf fans, I wish it was still Tiger vs Phil battling it out for charity, I’m still very excited to watch later this afternoon.
This time around we got Phil & TB12 (Tom Brady) vs Bryson & Mr. Discount Double Check (Aaron Rodgers). The four some will tee it up at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky Montana today at 5p EST for the third edition of this event. There’s a couple things I absolutely love about this event. First, everyone is mic’d up and it brings a not-so familiar element to a golfing match. Yes, we hear some banter from players and caddies from time to time during rounds, but this is more relatable to playing with a round with your buddies on the weekend. Secondly, the event includes Charles Barkley. While last year he was participating in (and winning) the event with Phil, he’s in the booth alongside Trevor Immelman, Larry Fitzgerald and Cheyenne Woods. Sir Charles is notoriously known for being on the wrong side of a joke when it comes to golf, but his inclusion in this event only makes it better. The last element of this event that I love is the charitable arm. When this event was started, it was everything golf fans needed coming out of the pandemic and raised a bunch of money for Americans who needed it. This year, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Feeding America and the Montana Food Bank Network will be the beneficiaries.
You can catch all the action on TNT today starting at 5p EST. And if you’re the gambling type (which you know we are) check out the action on DraftKings Sportsbook. There’s tournament lines, match play props and some good hole specials available to bet. I know Bryson & Rodgers are the favorites, but how do you bet against the Super Bowl Champ and this year’s PGA Champ??
